AI is everywhere in the news, but between sensationalist headlines and sci-fi movies, we’ve ended up with quite a few false beliefs. Here are five popular myths it’s time to debunk.<\/p>\n

Myth #1: AI Thinks Like a Human<\/h2>\n

No. AI doesn’t “think” at all. It calculates statistical probabilities on sequences of words or pixels. When ChatGPT gives you a smart-sounding answer, it’s not because it understood \u2014 it’s because that response is statistically probable. It’s impressive, but it’s not thinking.<\/p>\n

Myth #2: AI Will Replace All Jobs<\/h2>\n

Some jobs will change, yes. But history shows that every technological revolution transforms work more than it destroys it. AI will probably eliminate some repetitive tasks, but create new roles we can’t even imagine yet. The real risk isn’t losing your job \u2014 it’s not adapting.<\/p>\n

Myth #3: AI Is Objective and Neutral<\/h2>\n

Big myth. AI learns from data created by humans \u2014 with all our biases. If the training data contains racism, sexism, or prejudice, the AI will reproduce it. Multiple studies have shown biases in facial recognition systems, hiring algorithms, and predictive justice tools.<\/p>\n

Myth #4: AI Is Dangerous and Will Become Terminator<\/h2>\n

Current AI is what’s called “narrow” AI \u2014 it does one task at a time. We’re very far from an artificial general intelligence that could decide on its own to conquer the world. The real dangers of AI are more mundane: disinformation, excessive surveillance, algorithmic discrimination.<\/p>\n

Myth #5: It’s Too Complicated for Me<\/h2>\n

If you can write a text message, you can use AI. Modern interfaces are built to be accessible. You type your question, the AI answers. It’s literally that simple. The hardest part is taking the first step.<\/p>\n
