Sherpa: Your Free AI Guide (And Why We’re Giving It Away)
In a world where the best AI tools cost $20 a month, we decided to do something different. Sherpa is our AI assistant — and it’s free. For everyone. No catch.
What is Sherpa?
Sherpa is an AI assistant developed by Laeka, our nonprofit based in Quebec. You can ask it questions, get help writing, analyze documents, brainstorm ideas — basically everything you’d do with ChatGPT or Claude, but without paying.
Why is it free?
Because we believe AI access shouldn’t be a luxury. A student who can’t afford $20 a month should have access to the same tools as a professional. A curious senior should be able to explore AI without pulling out their credit card. It’s a question of equity.
How is this possible?
Laeka is a nonprofit research organization. We’re funded by grants, donations, and partnerships. Every dollar we receive goes directly into developing and hosting our tools. We have no shareholders to enrich, no profits to maximize.
What makes Sherpa different
Sherpa is designed with Quebec in mind. It understands our expressions, our context, our cultural references. When you talk to it about the SAQ, RRSPs, or poutine, it knows what you mean. It’s not just a tool translated from English — it’s a tool designed in French.
How to try it
Go to Laeka’s site and try Sherpa directly. No need to create an account, no credit card required. Ask it a question and see for yourself. The best way to understand AI is to try it.
Sherpa is our way of saying technology can be a common good. We’re giving it away because we believe everyone deserves a guide on the mountain of AI.
